BONUS MATERIAL ...

Since I started collecting postcards I have always been fascinated by the linen postcards. Talking about linen cards it's hard to avoid talking about postcards produced by the Curt Teich company. They are not only colorful and nice, but they are also easy to date through their numbering system.

The linen cards from Curt Teich (indicated with an "H" in their numbers) were produced between 1931 and 1957. A five-color process was used on black and white original photos. In this period 50.796 postcards were produced. The top year was 1937 with 3989 linen postcards. The last year of production, 1957, only 92 were produced. These cards are also knows as "Art-Colortone".

Marked on back of the postcard as follows:

or

***

But Curt Teich Co is not only about linen postcards.

In 1949 the natural color reproduction postcards came into production (indicated with a "K" in their numbers). By the closure in 1978 45.235 postcards of this type had been produced.

Marked on back of the postcard as follows:

or

or

In my collection I also have "dash P" numbered cards, "P" as Photocrom.
They were as the linen cards produced on black and white originals, but using a four-color process. Most of the card in series is said to be re-prints of earlier Teich cards. These cards were produced between 1951-1956. In total 1652 cards were produced.

I also have "dash N" numbered cards. The cards I have are both in color and black & white. They belong to 0A to 8DK series of postcards.

Marked on back of the postcard as follows:

or

In 1974 the Teich Company was sold to Regensteiner Publishers also in Chicago. The Teich Company continued to operate in the same building and continued printing Teich postcards until 1978 when the plant closed.

I do also have one "Giant Post Card" belonging to the "D" series dated from 1947. The "D" series consists of different kinds of printed pieces like brochures, pamphlets, souvenir booklets, foldout postcards, and obviously giant postcards. The series starting with no. D1 in 1929 and the last piece printed in the factory before closing down in 1978 was D20363.

Out of these ~98.000 Curt Teich postcards many have aviation motives. On this page you find a fraction of these cards. There are very dear to me but NOT a prioritized collection area of their own. But as soon as I buy one produced by Curt Teich Company it ends up on this page.

Enjoy!
